Konflikt '47

Konflikt '47 is a tabletop miniatures wargame set in an alternate history version of World War II, where the discovery of mysterious "Rift" technology dramatically alters the conflict's landscape. The game blends familiar WWII armies and tactics with sci-fi elements like mechs, powered armor, supernatural creatures, and futuristic weaponry powered by Rift energy.
Setting and Lore
Konflikt '47 takes place in 1947, in a world where World War II hasn’t ended. Instead, humanity has tapped into the Rift—a rupture between realities—leading to powerful new technologies and terrifying supernatural phenomena. This has transformed familiar armies into forces filled with bizarre tech and monstrous creations. The lore embraces both science fiction and horror, creating a nightmarish playground for alternate history storytelling.
Gameplay Overview
The game uses 28mm miniatures that players assemble and paint, representing the soldiers, creatures, and war machines of their chosen faction. Konflikt '47 uses game mechanics based on the Bolt Action system but introduces distinct concepts to create a unique tabletop experience. Key mechanics include:
- Dice Bag Activation: Rather than traditional turn sequences, players draw order dice from a bag to determine which unit acts next. This injects unpredictability and tension into each round by alternating activations between players.
- Rift Dice and Specials: Special Rift dice and unit abilities reflect the influence of otherworldly energies, bringing unique technological and supernatural twists to battles.
- Cinematic Battles: Battles are fast-paced and allow for a wide range of troop types—from infantry squads to powered armor, mechs, and monstrous entities.
United States
The United States in Konflikt '47 is defined by adaptability, devastating firepower, and cutting-edge Rift-tech, especially energy weapons inspired by Nikola Tesla. After the opening of the Los Alamos Rift, Rift energy has become not just a source of weapons but a near-religious force in American culture. Roosevelt’s miraculous recovery after exposure to the Rift deepened the nation’s resolve, positioning the conflict as a crusade against Axis powers and communism. American forces field a vast variety of walkers and experimental weapons, including jump-capable Fireflies and genetically enhanced Paragon soldiers, who display superhuman traits. The army is versatile, focusing on rapid mobility, a breadth of technological options, and overwhelming assaults, often underpinned by zeal and a sense of divine mission.
Axis
The Axis faction (primarily Germany, often including some remaining European allies) was the first to weaponize Rift technology and remains at the forefront of uncanny science and horror. The Axis military includes both living and unliving units, notably the terrifying Totenkorps (zombie soldiers), werewolf-like Schreckwulfen, and grotesque bioengineered horrors. Its advanced weaponry features gravity manipulation and rail guns, creating a technological edge. However, the Axis war machine is defensive, forced to plug front-line gaps with heavy infantry and experimental armor. Internal propaganda and draconian rule maintain unity. The struggle is existential, with soldiers and even entire populations subject to the whims of Rift science as Germany seeks to stave off annihilation.
Soviet Bloc
The Soviet Bloc prioritizes overwhelming manpower, relentless determination, and rapidly developing its own Rift-tech in response to Axis and American advances. Stalin’s iron rule and the Red Army’s vast numbers enabled the Soviets to survive the initial shocks of Rift-based warfare. Soviet science focuses on mass deployment of armored walkers and terrifying biologically engineered shock troops—like the Ursus squads, fierce hybrid bear-soldiers. While initially on the back foot, Soviet ingenuity and espionage provide stolen technology and ruthless adaptation. Their aim is the triumphant spread of Communism, with the entire military and society mobilized against the twin threats of Axis monstrosities and American zealotry.
British Commonwealth
The British Commonwealth stands at the heart of a global struggle to preserve both its influence and unity amid decades of war and financial exhaustion. Britain leads a vast coalition of Empire nations, all answering directly to London, leveraging manpower and resources through strict government control. Early access to US Rift-tech via Lend-Lease agreements allowed rapid advancements in weapons and armored walkers, but the Commonwealth excels in computing and automation, pushing the boundaries of Alan Turing’s work to field entire units of Automated Infantry and robots. These technological leaps make manufacturing highly efficient, enabling armies to operate day and night. Commonwealth forces deploy advanced walkers like Guardians and Grizzlys, widespread Tesla weaponry, and intricate targeting systems, excelling at ranged combat and fielding balanced mixed-arms armies with exceptional long-range and precision capabilities.
Empire of Japan
The Empire of Japan, after years of adversity in the Pacific, surged into an industrial and technological powerhouse through the pursuit of unique Rift-tech. While receiving limited Axis support, Japan’s greatest advances are their own: the infamous Shiboru ‘compression’ weapons, potent close-combat powered armor, and especially the “Ghost” battalions able to phase through solid matter, making them formidable in stealth and shock assaults. Secretive Rift research on Iwo Jima fueled new developments, as did inter-service rivalry between the Army and Navy, with elite units fiercely dedicated to the cause. Japan’s arsenal includes Rift submarines, light walkers, and stealth-oriented troops, allowing them to hold territory and strike unpredictably. The faction focuses on mid-range firepower, devastating close combat, and tactical flexibility, combining resilience with unique phasing and stealth mechanics.
